Time for a catch up

This year 2022 is a six year (2+2+2=6). In numerology six represents unconditional love, healing and nurturing. It is the number of compassion and empathy and it offers hope as well as service to others.

So, what does that mean for tarot and how is it related?

Well let’s take a look at the cards in tarot that are linked to sixes.

The obvious one is The Lovers, number 6 in the major arcana. It’s easy to see how this card relates. It’s all about love, companionship and compassion. And, in my opinion it’s a really nice card to guide us through 2022 after the challenging year the world had last year.

By the way, the major arcana are the set of 22 cards in the tarot deck that are represented by images connected to archetypes and symbols that we tarot readers believe relate to karmic and universal energies.

But, and there’s always a but right? There is one other card in the major arcana that is also related to six, The Devil card, number 15 (1+5=6). Ooof! The Devil card generally implies bondage to greed, lust, gluttony, excess, and more. You know, all those “sins” that society likes to think of as morally unjust, unfair or just plain wrong.

Fortunately for us there is much more meaning to both these cards and given that The Lovers is the actual six card, it’s way more likely to hold sway. Just in case though, here’s a little bit more about each of them.

The Lovers

This card can represent a union of two people in love but it can also represent other types of partnerships including business relationships, friendships, family and sibling connections, especially twins, and it can even represent two or more facets of one person. The Lovers is related to Gemini in astrology. The key elements are balance, harmony, trust and unity. When good things unite the result becomes much more than the sum of its parts.

The Devil

This card represents what happens when we let our appetites get a hold of us. When our eyes are too big for our bellies, as my Nanna used to say. It’s a warning card in the tarot and it’s related to Scorpio in astrology. If it appears in a reading it usually means that we need to stop some type of poor or bad behaviour before the consequences become dire. Personally I don’t believe in the devil but if you do then you’ll know that he comes a calling when you display a weakness to resist something that you know is vice and not a virtue.

Minor Arcana

In addition to these major cards there are also four of cards in the minor arcana that relate directly to the number six.

The minor arcana address everyday life issues, from the perspective of the four elements; air (swords, spades, arrows or similar), fire (wands, clubs, rods or similar), water (cups, hearts, vessels or similar) and earth (pentacles, diamonds, coins or similar).

Fortunately for us, the sixes in the minor cards represent stability and security or the potential and opportunity to find it. There is generally a helping hand involved and they all come after a period of challenge that occurs in the fives cards. (Incidentally, this accords with the situation last year 2021, which was a five year.)

So where does that leave us?

Well, the truth is it’s up to us to decide that. Our attitudes and our behaviours will determine how the year unfolds. If we choose to embrace love, compassion and to help others as best we can, then the year should be very rewarding no matter the challenges we face. What we think we create. Let’s think love and be the change we wish to see in the world.
